March Madness Compliance Reminders

The March Madness is just around the corner and we would like to take a moment to remind you about the requirements for owning a video gaming license. Video gaming licensees are required to comply with all laws, including Illinois’ gambling laws. Allowing any illegal gambling activity on the premises may result in substantial fines or the loss of your video gaming license and/or liquor license. The Illinois Gaming Board has made clear that it will NOT tolerate illegal gambling (e.g., use of brackets other sports betting, poker, etc.) in locations.

With the Madness approaching, the IGB will be performing compliance checks, and they will continue this practice into the March Madness season. They will be looking for any sign of illegal gambling wagers on the game, card games, sports betting and more.

If any form of illegal gambling is found during this time, the IGB will be issuing disciplinary fines of up to $8,500 or revoking gambling licenses.

We strongly urge you to (1) remove all paraphernalia that may be related to illegal gambling from the premises and (2) prohibit your customers from engaging in any illegal gambling activity while at your establishment. The Illinois Gaming Board will hold you responsible and the mere presence of gambling paraphernalia may lead the Illinois Gaming Board, Illinois Liquor Control Commission, or State Police to assume illegal gambling is occurring on your premises. These allegations will be very difficult to refute.

Any and all forms of unauthorized gambling must not occur regardless of the day or event. We value our partnership and want you to be able to participate in, and profit from, legalized video gaming. Please follow our advice. Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions, please let us know.
